I know you are trying to help but that logic is completely bonkers! I must strongly disagree.

The crank pulley drives everything on the the engine and therefore dictates the alignment of every other accessory pulley as well as the idlers and the tensioner. Following your logic the coolant pump, which I agree with you is the same for all engines, would be 1.5" out of line with everything else and would never work.

The front cover dimensions are the same between GEMS and Bosch, although the design of the cover differs slightly from what I have read. The link posted by BackInA88 above addresses this squarely and supports my statement.

"Front cover - A common misconception is that you must reuse the GEMS 4.0 front cover on the Bosch 4.6. Doing this makes the swap easier, but is not required. I used the 4.6 cover."

 

you can go measure them for yourself if you don't believe me. They made several hundred thousand of both vehicles



The balancer pulley has different offsets for GEMS and Bosch to match the accessory drive


Did you see the part on that website where he threw a whole bunch of nuts or washers or something between the pulley and waterpump to make up the difference? Obviously the mechanical fan wouldn't work with the pulley spaced out like that and he had to go to an electric fan.

That is a critical piece of information. The balancer's pulley location decides where the accessory drive must line up so if you install a GEMS cover you also need to install a balancer with the proper offset for that accessory drive. One without the other doesn't make sense which is where our disconnect was. Yes, that clears things up - the cover alone is not the single factor here.

 

That should be obvious You also will need to swap the accessory brackets

LHG000060 is listed for all applications on most parts sites for everything GEMS and Bosch, so not so obvious.
