I did mine last weekend - same thing, went from 204 to 194. I'm still chuckling that the Rave claimed you needed to remove the viscous fan to do it...

As I recall, clanch really got the ball rolling on this, was an early adopter, visionary, etc. Perhaps he could offer a status review after an extended period of time with the 180 stat?

It has been 6-7 months since I install the grey thermostat from Rimmer Bros. My temps range from 187-191 all the time. Cabin temps are lower inside, less flow to the heater core. I would think that would help with heater core life. Cooling system pressure is lower. Aux fan stays off. Fan clutch locks up more now, more flow to radiator. I would use factory thermostat, not worth cooking an engine with a aftermarket thermostat. Close loop no problem. Passes CA smog no problem. CO 10 HC 12 NO 18
