Default Clunking windshield wipers

I am having an issue with my wipers lately and I can't find anything by searching the forum that helps. They are clunking, hesitating, and making a lound clunk when I turn them on. I have seen that there is a wiper moter and transmission so I am assuming it is the transmission as the wipers still work. Is there an easy way to tell and what simple things should I start with first? Could this just be a loose nut (on the wipers, not me)?

are they both in hesitation together or just random?

Both together. They will travel a little distance, clunk/ hesitate and continue.

I had the same problem (99 DII) and they also wouldn't always go back the park position. Had to replace the wiper assembly, I believe you can buy just the motor too, I just bought the whole assemply......pretty easy DIY....good luck (get the rave manual to show you how to do it)

I'd guess the crankarm off the motor/trans ***'y is coming loose.

Do they still park correctly? if not, my bet's the crankarm.

Yeah they park fine but I am willing to bet it will get worse. Is the crankarm something you can get individually or should I just get the whole assembly and be done with it?
