Strange that there are two grooves. I would cover the bigger one.

Thanks, hopefully I can cover both - and hopefully the new seal was installed in the new timing cover exactly where the old one was wearing so it all lines up. Think that’ll be alright?

Should be? The seal goes all the way in until it seats on the timing cover.

OK thanks, I put the new seal in the new cover as far as it would go until it felt like it was in there where it belonged.

Does it look like I need to clean up some of the petroleum jelly here so it doesn't get on anything else when reassembling? Maybe some of the excess that's on the inside of the oil pump gear and around there?

You can just also install the seal deeper into the front cover so that it rides on a different part of the crankwheel. The factory seals are installed proud of flush, the new seal can be installed recessed of flush and will ride on a different part of the crankwheel spacer.

Thank you, I'll take a look at the original (?) front cover and see where the seal was installed compared to the new front cover with the seal I installed to try to gauge this.

I think I installed the seal as deeply as it would go - I'm pretty sure there was a lip that it grabbed onto and I figured that was the correct way to install it, but hopefully it's not too deep that it'll be an issue. I'm just very uncertain about where the seal will ride, so I'm hesitant about where exactly to put the sleeve. Tomorrow I'll check if the sleeve has enough depth to cover both of the grooves. Once the front cover is on, I don't know what adjustments can be made - hopefully the sleeve will be sticking out from the seal a bit, but I installed the seal with black silicone.

I guess I can put the harmonic damper through the seal in the front cover to see more accurately where I should install the sleeve? I'm want to try to cover the deeper groove and possibly the other one if I can.
