Ok I’ve been at this all week. Ground off part of the ball joints to free the knuckles. I’ve tried head and the top of the C clamp press is obstructed by the fender wall at the shock tower. Has anyone trimmed the fender wall there for better access or dropped the axle for better access?
If dropping the axle, if just undo the shock at the top will it allow the axle to drop down enough to give clearance? Also I have the stands on the axle so move them to the cross brace or one side of axle and the other on the cross brace?
Any other tips on getting the ball joints out. I’m getting no movement on them. I’ve tried the press, heat, deep creep and oil. Any more suggestions? This is day 5!
If I remember correctly, if you already have the lower ball joint out, you can flip the c-clamp around so the screw passes through the lower ball joint bore. That way you can crank it from underneath. While the screw is torqued, you can give the forging O.D. a few whacks if the ball joint isn't moving.
