D2 engine swap from Secondary Air to non Secondary Air motor
Hello friends. Missing our friend DiscoMike and have an issue. The engine in my 00 D2 with secondary air grenaded on me. Block checked out but internals need replacement.
Purchased a rolled over 02 D2 with non Secondary air 4.0 and the internals have checked out and are within spec and heads were rebuilt.
The 00 D2 block was pressure tested, deglazed, new rings, bearings, oil pump, chain, thermostat, frost plugs, hoses, pullys, gaskets, front driveshaft, you get the drift...everything is new. Oh and I should mention I purchased a used 03-04 transmission for the extra stoutness as I pull a 5500-6000 lbs boat about 2 times per year.
So next week once its all bolted together what should I expect to do next? Any issues with the ECU? If so, can I simply plug in the one from the 02 D2? Please advise.
Many thanks to you all who come to my aid in advance.
Eric

If you just plug everything in and plug the vacuum lines it will run fine but you'll have a constant engine code. You can swap the ECU/BCU/Instrent Cluster from the donor vehicle and that will no longer be an issue, but you'll show the wrong mileage on your cluster obviously.
Depending on what state you're in emissions inspection will be an issue if you do away with the SAI. I don't have that problem in VA, but you may wherever you're at.
Alternatively, and this would suck since the heads have been rebuilt, but you can swap the heads from your SAI engine and all the SAI components will hook right up. No computer swapping, emissions BS, or check engine lights to deal with.

Odometer, no idea. Mileage isn't a concern at this point as they are both within 2,000 miles of each other. I do all my oil changes so no reporting of mileage to Carfax and don't ever plan on selling....obviously or I wouldn't go through so much trouble to rebuild it 100%.
Mileage stays with the cluster as well as the BCU. You can keep your factory cluster and it will work, but the mileage will flash for the rest of the vehicles life.
Shops are not capable of reprogramming the ECU, but you can have a different ECU mated to your factory BCU and cluster if they have the correct scanners to do so. Hawkeye or Lynx scanners typically.

I don't know if they do Land Rovers or not, but they do most foreign and domestic cars/trucks and bikes.
They can legally change your odometer reading if you need to swap gages in vehicles. They can give you the legal details they need to do it.
They can also change the colors if your gages have led bulbs soldered on the board. As well as change gage faces. I'vd used them, and they do excellent work.
