D2 rear passengner AC vents
Hello there
Has anyone replaced the rear passenger A/C vents on their Discovery II?
Our 2003 D2 has 3 rear passenger A/C vents and they are falling off the head liner since the plastic tabs have broken off. I bought a replacement vent from one of the forum members but can't figure out how the vent goes in.

The vent has two plastics tabs on the top and two metal clips on the bottom. Tried to insert the upper part with the plastic tabs in the head liner first but the bottom part won't go in, and tried the bottom in first but the plastic tabs on the top might break if I try to force it in.

THe plastic tab side goes in first. THey tab captures just the fiberglass/cloth headliner not the foam gasket. Then the metal side goes in. When I did mine, I had the headliner off. It was easier because I had access the the backside of the headliner to push the metal clips in and press on the headliner as I was pressing in the vent..

I tried doing the plastic tab side first because that seemed logical but it looked like the metal clips needed to be rammed through the quarter inch headliner ORr the metal clips need to be compressed somehow before inserting them into the hole which is difficult to do. Any tips?

There's a foam gasket between the headliner and duct. It is attached to the headiner with double sided tape. It may be easier to drop a portion of the headliner. It would allow you to get you gand behind it to install the vent.

Install D2 rear AC vents
Because of forum member acamato's help, I figured out how to install the rear AC vent on my D2.
It was easy, took no more than one minute. As directed, the side with the plastic tab goes in first into the headliner. Next is the tricky part..... using two flat head screw drivers, press each of the metal clips enough so that you get the upper part of each clip inside the hole. Then using your flat head screwdriver, insert it on the curved part of the clip slowly helping the clip up until you will feel the vent snap into place.
I swear only took one minute or even less. Thanks again for your help!
