you can read a bad cksp with a live obdII scanner,
you can not use the land rover tach because they don't get a signal from the alt. until it has fired up, at least on boshe D2 and Gems P-38 iirc

 

This shows sometimes you really have to have thick skin (and a fat wallet) get the most out of a Disco. It would really suck if a DII died like this out in the middle of nowhere on some Moab-area trail on a hot, August day! But then again, my Chevy truck died once for no good reason.
