Disco II fan exploded -- need some help
Thanks for that Rover's north link, they have nice exploded diagrams. The part that is damaged is this one:
PIPE ASSY STEERING BOX DISCOVERY II LHD, RND901, QEP105400 - Rovers North - Classic Land Rover Parts

This is the exact reason why I suggested buying a new fan and not risking another failure. Even though that used fan looks good (because they clean it up with soap and water) doesn't mean it is.
don't forget the check the w/p bearing and motor mounts, something made that come apart.
in days of old it was common for a broken mount to allow the engine to jump up causing the fan to hit the shroud, but back then things were made of metal. you got a bunch of noise , you didn't grenade the whole front of your engine.

Too much jacking and you could break a motor mount that is not already broken.... as well as other stuff. Not enough, and you won't be able to tell if either is broken. There is a fine line between not enough and too much... so slow and careful is the key.
and w/p bearing to be checked for play with belt removed.

Unfortunately there are no pictures of the second method, so I'm wondering what you did.
Thanks!
and just to add to that...when jacking up the engine to check the mounts, be very careful and take it very slow checking the mounts regularly as you go up. You only need just enough lift to see if they are cracked (top and bottom no longer one piece held together by the rubber).
