I'm worried about it. Most target the hybrids it appears but stealing cats off a D2 would have to be one of the easiest scores out there. Plenty of clearance and nothing in the way once you are under there. On the upside they probably won't damage anything else doing the job. Not sure if it's true but a scrapper told me Land Rover cats are desirable because they have more of the precious metals due to qualifying in the EU. Might not apply to 16 year old Land Rovers but the thief probably doesn't do the the age math.
Our three vehicles are the two discos and a 99 Tacoma. All super popular targets for CC theft. Thankfully we have a zero deductible insurance policy on all of them, so if the cats are stolen, fresh new ones can be installed. But the hassle... Underbody panels, skid plates and such, exist for the Tacoma that would help deter a theft of convenience, but I don't think such things really exists for Disco's yeah?
I haven't seen a cat deterrent type of guard only skid plates. TF makes one that's pretty heavy duty but fits the TD5 only. It also only goes from the rear cross member to about halfway to the front cross member. Some take a flat plate and bolt from the rear to the front cross member, pretty straight shot with cut outs for the Cat low points. See below which is a custom one-off. I wouldn't leave it solid like that to trap heat and debri but looks like it has potential. I think the goal would be to make it look like too much trouble to get at the prize. Someone could probably cut a unibody car in half under 30 min. with a sawzall and pack of blades.
