Default Driver brake light turns off when activated with headlights on

2004 Disco, no electrical problems other than this:
When the headlights are off, brake lights activate as they should. When the headlights are on, the warning lights work as they should, but the brake light on the driver's side turns off when brakes are applied. Changed the bulbs, that didn't work. Figuring it's going to be grounding issue. Does anyone have a wiring schematic for this vehicle? Also, what is a good DIY home repair manual for these things? Doesn't look like Haynes has them for the gas V8s. Thanks!

Look for a thing called the RAVE -- there are links to it all over this site.
There's also a document called the D2 Electrical Library that contains a lot of essential information.

I recently had an intermittent rear drivers side brake light which was solved when I cleaned the contacts in the socket. The two spring loaded strips of metal were rust colored.

The wiring prints are in the Discovery 2003MY Electrical Circuit Diagrams. The DISCOVERY 99MY to 03MY ELECTRICAL LIBRARY has much useful information. Both documents are from the larger LR Rave pdf.
