Default driveshaft rebuild question

i want to rebuild the driveshaft on my 03 discoII. i just got it a few days ago. found this forum and started getting worried about the driveshaft. headgasket has already been done as well as plugs and wires. what exact parts do i need to buy and where do i get them. i am pretty mech inclined so i believe i can do it i just dont know where to get the u joints with the grease fittings. what should i expect doing this job and how difficult is it? any other suggestions would be awesome. thanks guys/gals

You will need to rebuild your drive shaft for around $70 in parts (qty 3) 344 precision u joints (qty 1) 617 precision ball kit or if you have an Advance Auto nearby PDQ 1-0005 (qty 3 @ $14) and Neapco 7-0081NG (qty 1 @ $30), I do not reccomend using Auto Zone as their U-joints are Chinese made and not very good quality. Your rear propshaft takes the same u-joint.

Your other option, have it rebuilt at a local drive line shop for $200 the plus side to this is they will balance the shaft. you could always do the work yourself and let them balance in the end as well.

After your new or rebuilt drive shaft is in make sure to grease each zerk fitting at every oil change or after off-roading or making a water crossing.

If you are mechanical enough, send me an e-mail address and I will send you a PDF file on rebuilding the front shaft.

If you're careful marking the parts so they go back the same way, you may not need to get it balanced. But my local driveline shop charges $30, and I've seen others say they paid $50.
