Default Drivetrain issue at low speeds

I have an intermittent issue that happens from stop, typically while turning. It sounds like a whining belt noise, followed by almost no acceleration, like I’m holding the brake and accelerator at the same time. After a few seconds there is a clunk noise, and everything returns to normal. I thought my front Tom Woods propshaft was the culprit. I put the stock propshaft back on, but after a month, it just happened again. I was in a drive thru, and would barely move forward while pressing the gas, followed by not moving while pressing the gas, then the clunk, & back to normal. Any ideas?

I put a new filter & gasket on this summer, but just double checked, & the fluid was running out when I unscrewed the fill plug.

was it running when you did that? Fluid check on these is not as simple as cold, motor off and unscrew.

I followed the procedure on one of the sticky threads for the maintenance a few months ago, but it was not running when I just rechecked the level.

search again for how to check level. Not running will not be accurate.

Thanks for the reminder. Ran it through all the gears with the engine running and rechecked. ATF was still slowly coming out of the fill plug. I added another few pumps to replace what ran out.

@OleMissRbl Well it still sounds like a torque converter, have you fitted a CDL ?

No it’s an ‘03 with no lockers, but I was planning on having a local shop put in a CDL from an ‘04 after the new year. I’ll probably grab the torque converter from the same ‘04 that’s at my local junkyard, just in case. Thanks. I’ll update when I get everything sorted out.
