Knucklehead at advance auto parts didnt want to sell me the L40316 for my disco. His computer said it wouldn't fit. I'm not violent by nature but thought I was gonna have to knock him out and leave the money on the counter to get it out of the store...

I have run it on my 97 stock, and it clears, and my oil psi was good (44). Fill the filter with oil before you mount it.

Yes, if you like overpaying for a nut and racing stripes.
Wix 51515 (or NAPA Gold 1515) for about $5.

Napa 1411. The Mann/Purolator filter in the OP is too long and my relocated steering damper hits it. The 1411 is shorter but much wider and more volume than the Mann. By rough estimate using outside dimensions, it has 30% more volume than the Purolator/Mann. It sells for under $10, usually 9 and some change.

I don't know if 4µ matters that much for the nominal rating, but the 51515 is a bit better. Though the beta ratio is the same.

For all of those that does not believe in this ROTELLA 15/40 diesel oil, let me tell you that you will notice a difference (big positive one) when you do the change. I feel bad I did not do it before in my previous 7 year with my 2003 Discovery SE7

USE THIS OIL. ROTELLA 15/40 -OR ROTELLA 5/40 SYNTHETIC (I don't recommend synthetic to my disco customers, It seems to just pour through the crusifix seals)

2003 land Rover Greensboro service center Discovery - 30* ambient temp: - 5/30 Synthetic oil - 15 psi idle COLD, 40 psi 2500 RPM COLD - 9 psi idle HOT, 38 psi HOT 2500 RPM
Same car with mongo filter and Rotella 15/40: 38 PSI idle COLD, 66 psi 2500 COLD -
21 psi idle HOT, 62 psi 2500 HOT.
(this engine has a tired pump and worn bearings, customer was concerned with engine NVH, noisy idle was eliminated with Rotella + mongo filter.)
