But what was the final straw on the filters?

It all depends on your taste of women, or men, which ever you're into.
I prefer women, redheads to be exact.
I also prefer the NAPA or Purolator oil filters.

Ha! Nice!

Why do you like NAPA? I have used a NAPA filter once in my life in my jeep and I will never use one again. Damn thing didn't seal properly.

Is installing the ultra gauge pretty easy?

Installing the U-G is easy, if you can plug in a lamp you can install the U-G.

NAPA oil filters are made by WIX and if you keep your eyes open you can buy them on sale for BOGO (buy on get one free).
If the filter did not seal correctly either it was the person who installed it or it was defective, I have never had a defective oil filter from any brand.
Not to say it cant happen, its just never happened to me.
WIX is rated as one of the best filters you can buy.
It is the number one filter for farmers, truck drivers, construction equipment etc.
Those guys jobs depend on their equipment, they wont use crap parts but they wont go broke keeping stuff running either.

Just got to the part where the ones we have has RUN long enough to change the oil. I have been using Royal Purple in all out cars for years. It started with the 1988 Ferrari and is what we run in the race car. We run 10-30 or 10-40 on the street and 20/50 or Straight 40 on the track. As far as filters we run only Purilator or K&N.
How far off am I?
The units are LR3 2005, P38 2001, Di 1998

The MANN filter at the start of the article is also sold by Purolator under their number. Mine came in a Purolator box. You probably change your oil more frequently than previous owners who tried to go 25,000 between oil changes. You want somethingW40 or higher in the Rover engines in your area, Rover says 30 weight only advised up to 95 F.

As for the Rotella, or other diesel rated oils, what I think is the big plus for those is that the chemistry of the oil is enhanced to allow more soot control. This keeps fine particles in suspension longer than normal oils, and the filter can catch it. The diesel oils seem to have more cleaning compounds in them.

But if you are running a high quality oil of the correct viscosity, then great. Another oil to consider is Kendall - see Kendall 1056016 Super-D XA Premium Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil With Liquid Titanium - 1 Gallon (Case Of 4)
