You might just a slight adjustment of the lever arm or the cable ,
the XYZ switch is on the left side of the transmission.
If this fails then a new switch is needed, from searching around you can find a switch for about 70.00 search for XYZ switch
Help! I have a 2003 Disco that I bought last month and his keeps happening to me and I have brought it to the shop twice and they can't locate the problem. I can't duplicate it on the spot. Can someone take a picture of what, where, how to fix this so I can show them or better yet save myself $125 just for having them look at the codes. Please and thank you!

Julie

yes, M & S flashing, D light on shift flashing, no acceleration. I have to turn off and restart either in P or N. I'm afraid I'll get rear ended.

just like the person above have your battery and charging system checked, your alt. must put out at least 13.5 volts.
if it does not you transmission computer sees it as a problem and put your transmission in SAFE MODE, in safe mode the indicator lights will flash and you will only have 3 gear, no 1,2 or 4 which would explain the no acceleration.
What kind of shop are you bringing it too? someone who specializes in LR? because most American cars are satisfied at 12.5 volt, which may be why they have not found the problem.
start with have the system checked and have the cables cleaned on both ends

Well, I would have thought that they would have checked the battery. They state that they have a history working on Landys. But I'm beginning to wonder. Thank you, I will go get my battery looked at. Now, I have a couple more questions. :-) My cruise won't set and the steering wheel doesn't go down far enough for me. I'm 5 ft.

search cruise control in this forum. There are a few things it could be. You can't lower the wheel, but you can raise the seat. Using the bottom horizontal button, push up while keeping the button level, it will raise the entire seat.

If the shop doesn't know discovery 2s they won't know about low voltage and ms lights.

If they are going to charge you to check your system, I would just go buy a battery. Costco sells interstate and has an excellent return policy, so if you find its not your battery, you can return it.

So, I had a friend with a voltage meter check my battery and when it was running was 13.5 and off 12.5. What else could it be? XYZ switch still? Repair shop said if I'm able to start in N then it shouldn't be the switch. Transmission? Gosh, I hope not. Only had it a month and have already replaced the radiator. :-/
