Question Are front and rear differential parts interchangeable?

Planning servicing the rear differential; and have a spare front. Would gears, spacers, components in general be the same ?

I think everything is the same except for the ring and pinion which are reverse cut, but I could be wrong about that.

If you have a complete front, rather than go through the bother of harvesting parts to redo the rear diff, I'd just put the spare diff in and pick up a rear driveshaft with u-joints at both ends. You'd never have to worry about that roto-flex coupler again.

I thought the front and rear were cut opposite directions so that the wheels turned the same direction? Does that mean that they are a direct swap?

i believe what Paul was saying was yes, and if you use a rear u joint conversion kit it will drop right in and eliminate the flex joint.

I was always told they used the same ring and pinion which is why front diffs go so often,
your actually putting the power to the coast side of the gears.

but ive been wrong before

A few companies offer reverse cut gears for additional strength. The way they are cut does not have a bearing on how the wheels turn.

Part number for the crown wheel is the same front & rear.
