fuel injector mishap
Did wires, plugs, and injector seals on an 01’.
injector seals were toast and half of the plastic retaining washers were broken/missing.
get everything back together and cyl 1 is misfiring like crazy. Tear it all apart, swap in new injector and seals, same thing.
by this time it’s 8:30pm and I had been wrenching since 7 am so I gave up.
then it occurred to me that maybe one of this missing plastic rings got into the head and was stuck on the valve seat.
Revved it to 4K, bam! No more misfires!!! So stoked

Yeah, something as simple as that can cause you great grief. Carbon deposits can sometimes do this, too.
Rebuilt an engine one time and a small broken off piece of a lock washer, about an eighth inch in length, fell into the cylinder, while installing intake manifold. Talk about being bummed, off came the head...again.
Brian.
