Got mine delivered yesterday and the snorkel itself looks fine. The dang cheat sheet with all the holes didn’t make intact.... so I’ll have to find another one from somewhere.
Well I took the plunge today and made the holes in my fender today. I laughed though when I watched 2 videos (verified the placement of the generic templates) and everyone swore up and down to paint all your holes you drilled to prevent rust. Umm unless my LR is unique it's front wings are 100% aluminum and aluminum does NOT rust. I would have finished it today, but I couldn't hunt down my rivet gun (haven't used that puppy in years...) so I've got to pick one up tomorrow along with some silicone.
I was planning on running around with my intake flipped backwards, but it interferes with my roof rack. I'm going to modify the opening with some metal screen to prevent dragonflies and beetles from getting sucked into it.
The only difference between the ARB and the generic is the amount of mounting holes each unit requires. The ARB has 6 I believe and the generic uses 4 to hold it to the fender. I don't see that being an issue though as 4 IMHO is plenty.

Yeah I am at the same step as you, cut the holes but didn't feel like finishing today, I also got to see the extend of the damage the previous owner did (front end collision) some bent paneling on the inside. No big deal to me though just have to bend it back.
Mine is installed, and sealed (up to the inside of the fender). Install wasn't hard at all. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the generic snorkel vs the $$$ ARB unit.
I've ordered a 3.5inch x 1ft long silicone intake/turbo hose and I'm going to cut it to fit. My cloth intake hose tore, and I'm going to make sure without a doubt that it's air/water tight. No sense in having a snorkel if you can still suck in water.... I'm going to leave the little drain inside the OEM air box bottom open as whatever water that could get sucked in while driving will have somewhere to drain.
