Maybe if you put it in reverse and drive really fast it will loosen?

Hope you dont have to buy all the parts again. I have no real ideas....sorry I am stumped.

Bummer.
I think I read somewhere that the fluid in the clutch has to be forced to the outside by centrifigle force. then after heating up a valve will close forcing the fluid into the middle and locking the unit (or at least restricting it). So if you don't have the thing spinning it won't work i guess.

If only you could spin it and heat it up.

did you try the metal strapping?

Pulled the heads last night amid a 18pk of Silver Bullets with a couple buds in the shop. No surprises with the exception of the left gasket which was eaten away to the seal ring on the 3rd hole left head. Weird, looked like a squirrel ate it. At any rate the heads & block are true, the valves are clean & guides are tight. Tonight with yet another 18pk & some pizza, I'll drive it out the shop sans exhaust leak.

Mission accomplished, head gaskets & other associated gaskets, fluids & filters renewed. Tonight Royal Purple fluid swap, new starter & headliner removal for some type of repair (trying to decide although the paint repair is neat) along with rear sunroof diagnosis then on to interior cleaning. BTW what/who is OME in relation to lifting springs I've read about on the forum?
Regards
Doug

I am glad this head gasket adventure is going well for SOMEONE, but I am poopy that it isnt me...

And as for my level of patience - I have another vehicle that I drive to and from work, the rover is just sitting in the garage more or less out of the way, and I drink a LOT. Hope that helps explain it.
BTW if the old guy at machine shop cant help me the next stop is the explosive locker at work and a phone call to auto insurance people to renew full coverage.

Before you go there, try one more thing: Since you have the water pump and fan out, place it on the floor with the fan down and exposed back of the pump up. Lay it on a heating pad, and let it cook for a few minutes. While it's heating, duct tape a drill operated paint mixer to the impeller as well as you can. Then spin the impeller and shaft in reverse (counter clockwise as you look down at it) as fast as possible with an electric drill. The heating pad should open the viscous valve and cause some resistance. It may be enough to unscrew it.

Pilsner I feel for you I really do and you can work this out.

Look on the bright side though now the forum has this sweet new "FAIL" image we can use when someone really ****s up. Everyone feel free to use this to award a failure to anyone who deserves it. Here it is:

My mistake. Based on the previous posts, I was under the impression Pilsner had removed the assembly and was taking it to a machine shop for possible repairs.
