Ok, so I am STILL waiting on the stupid waterpump pulley to arrive...

although I have gotten a lot of stupid little things done to her while she is just sitting in the garage. got her interior detailed, changed out plugs and wires, changed out the VERY old diff fluid front and rear, fixed the rear wiper, dielectric greased every plug I could find, installed the new waterpump, etc.

so now I wait...

Ok, so I got the pulley and put it on the rover. Got her all assembled and she fired up. sorta. She has a massive exhaust leak on the passenger side (I check the exhaust manifold bolts in the am when they cool down) and I never got her to operating temp b/c of the exhaust leak; the garage filled up with fumes and we had to shut her down. Anyway, before I shut her down I hooked up the OBDII reader to her and got a P1300 fault.

what is 1300 fault and where do I go from here?

You still have not downloaded the shop manual?

P1300 is multiple catalyst damaging misfires. How many beers did you have in you when you put on the wires? Also you sure the smoke is not from all the penetrating oil burning off your exhaust manifolds?

Yes the shop manual is right here on my computer. I guess I didnt relaize that the codes were in there.Oops.
I assume that most of the smoke is from oil and degreaser and whatnot burning off (I actually thought of that myself after I posted the question on here) of the manifolds.

after a little rooting around in the RAVE manual I relaized that I had the REARmost cylinder as No. 1 instead of the frontmost. oops.
damnit, now I gotta take off the manafold. again...

So I went out to the rover and removed the plugwires and put them back on in the correct sequence (i think). I started her up and she seems to run well considering she had 2 year old gas in the lines. The OBDII reader is still giving me a P1300 fault code though.
So I would like to double check that I did it right. On the coil the bottom row (from passenger side to drivers side) is 1,6,5,8 and the top row is 7,4,3,2. Right?

Am I just reading an old code in the system or is it still screwed up? I unhooked the battery but didnt do anything to clear the old codes before I started her up. Do I need to clear them or do they reset automatically?

Incidentally once she got warm the smoking problem went away. Who ever said that I just had degreaser and whatnot on the manifolds from cleaning her was right on the money.
thanks guys!

Your welcome.

Are you erasing the code with your scanner and then it's coming back?

Here is the wire diagram
