I was installing the new cam bearings (1 to 4) and I messed up no.1. Oh well live and learn they say I'm using the 8milelake tool (same as lisle)
I just ordered another set but you know what's going in my head now... do I pull it and strip the whole engine? This is my first rebuild. I'm a bit intimidated I have to admit but I made it quite far!

Do injectors need replacing at 150k miles? I mean if you are doing a head gasket job, would you swap them? I had some ''roughness'' in the idle before but that was probably caused by the head gaskets but are the injectors prone to wear?
Sets are $110 USD on ebay for rebuild ones. I read a few threads of people replacing them but there was never the reason for doing so.
I am in process of removing the cam with motor in. I will inspect the cam bearings. Most folks I have talked to (Rover mechanic among others) have said odds are very good my cam bearings are fine. Did you remove the condenser to install the cam?
You’re right. I was reading somewhere that the condenser could be angled out but when I looked closely at it there was no way that could have worked. I pull the trans cooler (put rags down there) called a home AC guy and he pumped my refrigerant out for $50 and then I pulled the condenser. I replaced the dryer before reinstalling but I was later told it was not necessary. Be careful pulling the camshaft not to damage the bearings too much. I welded two head bolts together and screwed that on the end to act as a handle to hold the camshaft as I pulled it out.

Morning! Well 5000km later here is where we are at:
I have a slight oil leak from the rear main. Doesn't drip on the ground when I park it but there is a drip just hanging in there all the time so it probably drips once in a while while driving.
The issue: the burnt coolant smell about one minute after startup is back! I haven't been able to see if the back of the head is leaking out again. I see no big sign of leakages from the hoses or the throttle body heater plate but for the 3rd time now in about a week I definitely get the smell when the heater comes on upon warming up the engine. Nothing after that. It could be the tank that has cracked again (4th tank, this brand new one from the dealer was installed right after the headgaskets were done and dealer said they are having issues with the new tanks all over the world! they know the issue but don't extend the warranty).
Anyway, I will be chasing that smell, coolant doesn't go down significantly, I did top up just a little but as the tank leaks out a bit, it could be that.
But that smell!!! before the headgasket job it was leaking out the back of the heads onto the exhausts and I would get a strong smell after about one minute of running as it would burn off. Not as strong now but there nonetheless.
