Default Help with odometer display ..gear shift display

I’ll admit I’m not mechanically inclined and that’ll be obvious by the questions I’ll ask ..so please bear with me and TIA for any input.
Went off-roading in my 2002 discovery 2 last weekend, pretty rough terrain and all was well aside from my gear shift getting a little hung up. Tried starting it and it wasn’t quite in gear , jiggling it helped and started up immediately . Has been a minor nuisance since but I didn’t think much of it since it always started and everything is working and running fine otherwise. Three days ago I noticed a blinking B next to my mileage indicator, but the B has a line through it . Nothing in my manual about a blinking B. I’ve found several threads on the web with others asking the same question but they are having other issues with alarms , turn signals, power windows, etc not working. I’m fortunately not having those issues. Two days ago my actual mileage started blinking as well. Yesterday..my funky B returned to a D and just the mileage was blinking. Today ..just the Funky B and I had an AHA moment..it’s not a Funky B but a D, P, R, N all in one..which makes it look like a B with a slash in it. Ok..that’s good to know..but what in tarnation does it mean? All other electrical matters are fine..could it just have something to do with my shift linkage? Pardon my terminology...but I’m getting there!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated because I’m hoping to do an off-road trip this weekend and don’t want to wind up with a bigger problem.

Sounds like your XYZ switch on the side of the transmission, behind shift cable has moved or is loose or has gone bad...or you bent the shift cable slightly. There are two small bolts that the XYZ switch pivots on for adjustment, 10mm, try adjusting it while someone sits in the seat. If the shift cable is bent, there is a nut you can loosen to adjust that, too.

If you went through any deep water, you may have got water inside switch...and this is causing the micro switches inside the XYZ switch to malifunction. You could try spraying it with WD40, it will help displace the moisture.

Brian.

I was definitely in some deep water last weekend so that’s a possibility! Thank you for the advice..giving it a shot this evening.
thank you Brian!
