Should this be swapped out proactively like the O2 sensors? I'd hate to get caught out with this failure but if it is unlikely to happen then I can feel comfortable taking the chance.

Just changed mine in my 2000 Disco II after having code 335. Took about 25-30 minutes. I was fortunate enough that the previous owner did a cat delete, giving me more room to get to everything. Not a horrible job but I wouldn't want to do it after driving it.

Unhappy CPS replacement sucks, but how about wobble CPS cover

Hi guys, new to the forum with an issue that I could not easily find reported in forums. I´m also hoping to bring you enough trick for the fun of it. It 's a heck of good stuff here with excellent writeups on CPS stuff. My issue looks simple at first glance, so allow me to describe it. It is about the CPS cover, that cylindrical piece with two screw holes, made of fiber glass that no one says a word about just because it is not supposed to be an issue. If I'm not mistaken, it provides a firm attachment of the CPS to the mount prongs coming out of the flywheel housing. When you torque it, it should not move, just because it pulls the prongs outward while pushing itself against the block. Is this a fair description that matches your understanding. In my case, by torqueing it to the full length of the two screws, should be enough to stick the cover to the block. It does not, the cover attaches to the mount. I can still pull the cover outwards with the screws tight about a fair 1/4". So although the cover is fit to the prongs the mount is loose inside the flywheel housing. The cover is not broken, it keeps the standard length. It looks like the CPS mount got loose, it may be welded or attached from the inside. The $1 million question is: any suggestions as how to fix it without tearing down the whole thing? In addition, if you need to replace the cover with a new one, where to find one online? Your comments will be greatly appreciated. See pics below and note the arrow pointing to the mount prongs.

The only time I've ever seen those get loose = someone has at one time changed the vehicles engine from say a GEMS to a Bosch or a Bosch to a GEMS. When you do that you have to swap the CPS mount by grinding down the welds and then most people don't weld them back in and instead just an epoxy or JB Weld and eventually they can come loose.

Default helpfull tip?

When I did mine, I found access to be very limited. So i cut a 6"x6" flap in the inner fender well of the drivers side. Access to the CPS and plug were easy as pulling the wheel.
