Default Jerky Trans?

Hello All. I am a new member as well as a new Disco owner. I just bought a 2003 LR Disco SE7 and never have been happier. I have just one thing I notice from driving and am hoping it is standard procedure.

When I start driving and am in 1st with my foot very light on the peddle, I notice a sort of jerk or jut delay into 2nd then all is super smooth. It doesnt do this if I hit the gas hard right away, all is smooth, it is just if I am sort of coasting with a small amount of gas.

Again any help would be great, hoping it is standard procedure with the 4wd V8 which I am unfamiliar with. Thanks.

How many miles on the truck and have you checked the trannys fluid level?
Also check and replace the 2 rear u-joints on the back end of the front drive shaft, where it hooks to the t/case. If they have no grease fittings, which they won't, they have to be replaced or you can and will loose your tranny.

The truck has 72. When I bought it, I was told it went through the shop, was inspected, and all it needed was breaks. I didnt check the tranny fluid though. Would low fluids cause this. I read in the manual that depending on how much acceleration there is, it whill shift differently. I dont even notice it all the time also.

Check the fluids, just because it went thru an inspection, doesn't really mean a thing when you consider the mechanical level of the people doing it.

How do you 'check the trans fluids' on a 03 Discovery?

There are 2 plugs on your tranny. Fill and drain. Do a search on here for the procedure to check. It needs to be warm and running.

Drive it around the block, park on a flat surface, put it in park and set the parking brake. With the engine running crawl under the trk and find the fill plug on the trans, it will be the higher of the two. Remove the plug and if the fluid runs onto the ground then you are full.
