Default land rover discovery 2 m and s lights flashing

Hello, about 2 weeks ago while driving my D2 it went into limp mode and the m, s, and d lights all started flashing. I was able to turn the truck off and on and it was fine, but over the next few days it started happening everytime I drove it. I am in need of some suggestions on what it could be. Here is what I have done already:
checked battery, new battery installed voltage is within normal range, connections are clean of buildup
had alternator tested and that was fine
adjusted the selector lever
changed the xyz(inhibitor switch)
I took it to autozone and the codes that came up were p1412 and p0722
I did take it to a mechanic and he right away wanted to charge me 5800 for a new tranny, I am hoping that is not the case.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on possible causes for the home limp mode. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Follow neagative cable from battery to points where it ties to chassis and be sure grounds are tight and clean.

Default Bad cps can cause flashing m & s

When my crank position sensor went, I waited an hour for it to cool and headed home. Multiple mis-fires on the trip, no check engine light, but the M & S lights were flashing, the lcd D was flashing, and the red indicator light on shift lever was flashing.
Changed sensor next day. Crank times at start up reduced, and other symptoms never returned.

Happy,
what are the exact voltages and charge rate with a full load at idle?
How mechanical are you?

The symptoms of the OP and experience Nick described match exactly what happened to me when I needed to replace the Crank Sensor in my '03.

The crank sensor replacement ranks no 1 as my most-hated and frustrating repair to date. I think you need skinny and long arms and tiny hands (3 of them) to do this effectively. Changing wires with the I/M in place was cake comparatively!

A failing crank sensor will not make the M/S lights flash.

My mistake. Chalk my anecdotal experience up to sheer coincidence then. Dis-regard previous communique and move along. Nothing to see here, folks.

Savannah Buzz, I will check the cables to make sure they areclean and tight.

Disco Mike, at idle I think it was at 14. I didn’t test it atheavy load. I will test it tomorrow and will get back to you. I am prettymechanical. Why, what other suggestions do you have? Do you think I shouldreplace the crack shaft sensor? Do you know of a way to test it?

I completely made up my recent post. No actual experiences were encountered.
That being said, WHAT THE HE11 is the purpose of of board if we cannot share true experiences and learn from them? I swear to you, FLASHING M AND S LIGHTS WITH BAD CRANK POSITION SENSOR. Think about it: if you have a modicum of common sense, you will realize ECU uses CPS data as part of engine mangement. Bad CPS data, flashing warning lights.
Yeah, It's your board. Go ahead and ban me.

I figured it out! It ended up being low tranny fluid. The mechanic that I took it to should have checked that. I will NEVER take my truck to him again he wanted me to pay 5800 to install a new tranny. He was a tranny specialist and should have known to check that. I am just going to monitor it and make sure it does not have any major leaks, but has been running normal now. Thanks everyone for your suggestion.
