You don't have to apologise for being a novice most of us are weekend mechanics (myself included), you had the good sense to research the issue and by doing so saved your self $7k.

what exactly does the cricket noise sound like? mine has more of a whine at high speeds (happens at around 50mph, stops, and again at around 70mph).
if you get distracted your mind kind of drowns it out, but it can be annoying.

i tried crawling under and looking for the grease nipples but i just have no idea what im looking at. ill have to have someone call me tonight when i get off work, unless someone has real good pictures showing the whole driveshaft..

see this write up in the tech section for pictures. If your front section of drive shaft (goes to front differential) does not have three grease fittings then you need to add them by replacing the universal joints.

The drive shafts start to fail around 80K (mine were bone dry at 84K) so if you haven't rebuilt it you should go ahead and have that done.
