My auto trans shudders at 80kmph/200revs
2000 Revs not 200, sorry. Hi everyone, i have a S2, TD5 Disco,2001, auto trans. and recently did some reasonably heavy towing, 7 x 5hr trips to be precise, sitting on between 80-100clicks. Since the last & final trip i've noticed a very obvious 'shudder!' that im very confident is caused by the auto trans. Happens at about 80kmph/2000revs. I had the fluid level checked, needed 3 1/2litres! but the problem is still there. I've learnt to manage it right until it's repaired, i just drop back on acceleration/revs as i near the abovementioned range(s) but there's an obvious problem that need's attention and i'd like to get some advice before i visit the transmission specialist. What do you think? Cheers
Start by changing the fluid and filter, thats a easy DIY job.
If it continues after that you may have fried the trans by running it so low on fluid.
These transmission are pretty stout so lets hope for the best.

Hi guys. I have recently bought a 2002 v8, 94,000 klm and in very good condition. the car drove beautifully. The auto transmission was serviced just prior to me buying the car. Filters done. A few weeks ago, I had a shudder in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, at a wide range of speeds. Dropping back a gear did not help, but the shudder dissappeared as soon as the power was reduced and came back as soon as the power was applied. I drove 120 klm and it had this mild shudder the entire time. I thought I may have a major problem however but next time I drove the car the shudder was gone and has not reappeared.
Firstly, is there anything that can be adjusted in the gearbox. I believe there are no bands to adjust in these transmissions.
Secondly, can anyone explain what might be going on? I doubt if the drive shafts have had the uJ's replaced but to me this does not seem like a drive shaft or balance problem.

If your tranny fluid is/was black, you probably waited to long to have it checked, that is why you had all those warning lights on.
As for the clear fluid leaking, sounds like gear oil.
Where are you located, we should talk.
