Default New power steering pump - does this gasket look right to you?

First thing I noticed was how out of place this gasket appears. Haven't ever noticed this on the half a dozen other pumps I've installed on these. Specifically clocking that plastic bit.

Yep, that is the new upgraded one. You can check the bolts for tightness but don't overtighten or you will crack the rear cover. When you install it, connect the hoses and let it sit for a few hours before mounting to see if it leaks. I put some of the blue shop towels under mine to see if it leaks.

How does that gasket work? It looks like adhesive on one side, which makes sense, but slick plastic on the other mating surface?

Yeah, it is a mylar gasket with a silicone coating for sealing. Not sure why they use mylar, probably because it is impervious to ps fluid.

New or improved or whatever, that’s utter ****ing garbage from a QC standpoint from a parts manufacturer.

$250 for this fine piece of craftsmanship 🙃

Now let's put $70 worth of fluid in there and see if it works!
