How do you removal the black oil filler neck on the valve cover. it looks like there is a plastic ring on the underside that should turn with the use of a spanner but no dice?

Oh, yeah, it'll come out, usually when the cap is difficult to remove. Use a strap wrench with a cheater bar.

I had to get a large enough channel-lock pliers to get mine off. I also doubted whether it was supposed to be removed but I eventually got it.

Default How to remove?

So for those of you that have removed the neck to replace the gasket....it just turns off? You don’t have to remove the rocker cover? When I replaced my head gaskets and cleaned up the covers, I was thinking there was a metal retainer that had to be removed from inside? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Like @Lisa Bunch mentioned... It'll definitely unscrew off when trying to get off a tightly screwed on oil cap.
If you do use a wrench on it, be careful! That filler neck is fragile. At least mine was.

Mine was fragile as well, ended up replacing it because it broke when I got the channel locks on it.

Thanks for the quick reply! So I don’t screw it up, does it loosen in the CCW direction or does it loosen in the CW direction? I know sometimes it’s exactly opposite of what you are used to and you don’t figure it out until you break it.

@GregDisco2 Same as the direction as the filler cap (CCW), mine comes out some the time when I go to add oil. It is very annoying
