Just to update I did an "oil pump" search here, you must use quotes or it won't use oil as a keyword.

The chamfer was only on the OEM factory oil pump gears, aftermarket pumps apparently did not have that and can go in either way.

See my post about the main and rod bearing replacement. You will net negligible results with only replacing the oil pump gears.

Could well be true, however given the choices the oil pump is the logical first place to look. He has no need to replace his "new" set of oil pump rings if they check out ok.

Then he can move on the the bigger harder things like you mention, RMT.

No need changing out bearings if you overlook a broken oil pump. :-)

Car has 150k on it. His oil pressure light has been on and off. What do you think his bearings look like?
