Default Power Steering Pump Rebuild Video Link

For all of you rebuilding your own power steering pumps at home, here's a video. It's not perfect but it explains how to rebuild a Discovery 2 pump step by step including links to various products I used.

Important: Please read description on YouTube first before watching. There are a couple steps I missed during the initial take. Enjoy.

Nice video! I just did mine a few days ago and I can't get it to work right.. It appears like there is air in the system but regardless how often or when I bleed it, no air comes out. Is yours working fine? Did you get your kit from ebay?
Cheers

It was a bit hard to turn after the rebuild but that’s apparently normal. I just spoke to the ebay seller and he said if the pump ran dry it moght have burnt itself. As I started the car and ran it to 2500rpm for 25 mins it’s possible I burnt it... make sure there is oil in your pump before starting the truck. Maybe connect the inlet but not outlet, fill the reservoir and turn the pump by hand until it leaks out the pressure side, then connect everything and start the truck.
I’m ordering another kit and will do that when I start it up.
It works now but it sounds like there is air in the system. No air comes out the bleed home. I hear the pump whine a bit and there is barely any assist at idle. PAS works fine at speed but is noisy.
Good luck with yours!!
David
