Rotoflex? You're talking about the rear shaft now. All of the discussion regarding greasing the centering bearing through the vent hole with a needle is for the cardan joint in the front shaft.

The rear shaft has a serviceable u-joint fitted with a zerk. If it's not wasted, just keep using it. As for the center bushing that works in conjunction with the roto-flex coupling, that's a must-do item. If the rubber coupling needs to be replaced, then that bushing will be pretty beat. If you only do the coupling, you will likely end up with vibrations.

Replacing it sucks. The rubber that surrounds the inner bushing saps any energy you put into it with slide hammers or with the grease-and-drift method you can use for pulling pilot bushings. You need to get after it with a chisel. There is a thread or two around that covers the process. I've done it and if you do it right it takes about 20 minutes, but if things don't go well it can take much longer and involve some ugly knuckles.

can you pm me and elaborate on the center bushing and where I can get one? How often do they have to be replaced? (assuming the shaft and u-joint are greased every 3,000 miles?

????? Um, like, you have a link for it in your signature? It's pretty well organized and has these like different sections that cover certain stuff so you don't have to read so much. And it has pictures.

As for the bushing, figure out the name of the part you are about to work on and use the search feature on this forum to find out what needs to be done. That's how I learned as I goed.

The Roto bushing (centering bush) is not a servicable item. it gets replaced when you replace the roto coupling. A very simple "search" will reveal all the info you seek.

I have no doubt you are really excited to be the new owner of your dream vehicle. I am sure you have good intentions around here and based on your comments herin you want to also be the peacemaker. (see my signature)

I doubt many people here would be willing to answer your questions after a comment like that one above. It comes across as if you won't make the time to learn so others should spend their time to teach you...... that does not fly.

It ain't all huggs and bromance in the Rover World. Instead of being a sponge you should read up on the certain sections related to your current questions. You will gain knowledge and experience. The answers are in your own signature.

Just trying to help you a tad. If you do not wish to receive helpful suggestions like this please do let me know. I will craft a special and final suggestion for you.

No I completely understand and I realize that I have a tendency to ask way to many questions. I just find it more difficult to understand a formal workshop manual in contrast to hearing it from fellow members. I'm still very novice in auto-mechanics and I learn new things are they come up. Not trying to be a pain here. And yeah I know its not all about hugs and kisses here (anywhere for that matter) but I have had my share of heated debates and today I have a greater appreciation for the forum and for most all the members and I hate to see everyone fighting and bashing each other and stuff like that.
I appreciate your suggestion.
PS: I did do a brief keyword/thread search here on the forum for "centering kit, driveshaft centering" and found little or nothing. I can figure out how to install it but right now I'm just trying to figure out the official name of the part and the place to order it pronto.

Driveshaft Rubber Coupling (Part # TVF100010) - Land Rover driveshafts from Atlantic British

If you buy a rotoflex with the full hardware kit, the center bushing usually comes with it. See the photo in the link above.

The centering kit is referenced in the Propshaft Rebuild thread I told you to read, which is also listed in the Discovery Tech Section link in your signature.
