Thumbs up Replacing Motor.. Need Advise on option

I posted this about 8 months ago, but new guys come and go so I am reposting..

What is the best route to replacing my blown 4.6l air injected 04 Disco motor?? It overheated and has a cracked cylinder wall somewhere..

1. What have you guys heard of puting diesels or other types of reliable motors. I can get a built and bad *** Stroker motor or other types of motors for the same I can get onother one of these POS Bosch motors..

2. Also is it that hard to have the cylinders walls replaced if I can get a good price?? My truck is the S model and the Kelly blue book on it is only $5,800 so I don't want spend too much fixing it.. I still owe Land Rover so I don't want to junk it either

Thanks for any help you have...

How do you know you dropped a sleeve?
No real options for exchanging engine under $10,000 plus, and that is on the light side.
If you have dropped a sleeve, yes a few shops can replace the sleeves, but then again, pretty expensive.
If an engine was needed, I would start looking locally and see what you can find in the local yards.

We blew a head gasket, and repaired it, and doing so we could see the sleeves had not dropped.. But the same conditions kept going so its assumed that there is a crack in the sleeve allowing air to pass through the piston walls in to the cooling system

i'm interested to see what the options are. i believe i've got a slipped sleeve also. has overheated on me recently. miss on cylinder 4. block test fluid goes from blue to yellow pretty quick. i'm having the head checked next week to see if it's the head. if it's not a cracked head, could it be anything else besides a slipped sleeve? also, does anyone know somebody in florida that can replace the sleeves and where do you get replacement sleeves from. thanks

Dynomite, just buy a used engine, with a warranty and run with it. You will end up spending more than the truck is worth trying to resleeve your current engine. Check car-parts.com and see what shows up in your area. Many of the shops will acutally install the motor for you for an extra fee. Phil

dumb question. if i say i'm searching for a 2004 engine or 2004 engine block. is the car-parts.com system smart enough to know that i can use a 2003 engine or 03 and 4.0 block also? or do i need to go in there and submit for each?
