Default Reset ECU

I have a 2002 landrover discovery and have called landrover for help but they do not have the equipment to do this on a 2002. I had to put a new starter/ignition in because my key broke and now the car shuts down after about 20 minutes driving it, I have heard it is the anti theft shutting down the fuel pump. It was running for about 4 days until I started using the keyless door entry and is when it started this. Can I reset the ECU and how do I do that or is there a ignition that over rides the code needed?

You can remove the lock cylinder and take it to a locksmith who can both remove the broken key as well as make you a new one.

I see this is your first post here. Welcome to the forum. It's by far the best source of quality information about the DII.

There are a few things to unpack here.
  • First, I know of nothing about the immobilization system that would shut down the fuel pump after 20 minutes. If immobilization was the culprit, the engine would not start at all. Not sure where you heard this one, but the Rover groups on Facebook can be a cesspool.
  • The crankshaft position sensor (CKPS) is the well-known failure point that shuts down the engine after it gets hot, and then allows the engine to start again after it cools down. There are dozens of threads on this forum about the CKPS.
  • As for the broken key, there is no need to remove the ignition barrel and take it to a locksmith. You don't say where you are, but many, many locksmiths offer mobile service only. They will come to you. They have specialized tools to remove the broken key without removing the ignition barrel from the truck.
  • Regardless of what I wrote about the immobilization system above, settings in the the BCU (body control unit) can be changed to disable immobilization. This requires a DII-capable diagnostic tool You don't say where you are located, but if you let us know there may be a forum member near you who can help you.

I know Nanocom and CarSoft both make tools that could help with the programing too disable the lockout system. Before saying it's the security system see if you can buy or rent one of those tools and do a diagnostic because it may not even be the security system at fault and could be an inexpensive sensor in the engine or a loose wire issue.
