Default Shifter Stuck In Park

Hey, have the same problem as a lot of people on here with my Disco 1. My shifter is stuck in park. I have tried what most people have said on the forums already. I bypassed the rear window defrost with paper clips. I have brake lights. I have taken the cover off the shifter and pulled the pin up with pliers. I'm kind of at a loss right now. Any ideas on what it could be.

Replace the brake light switch.

To test if its the brake switch, pull the plug off of it and run a jumper wire across the leads. If shifter changes while jumped then its the switch. Remember to remove jumper before driving off or else brake light will be on.

From what his post states, he has brake lights and he has already tried jumping the system thru the rear defroster.
I am thinking a shift solenoid has failed.

How would I test to see if it's a shift solenoid?

Hot wire it or use a test probe to verify a current to the solenoid.
