Default RE: Should I buy this Disco?

I bought my 1998 Disco with 135k km which is approximately 80k miles for 1000$CDN. But the truck had several issues like a bad cv joint, transfer case needs to be replaced, the hood did not open, the driverside mirror was missing there is a power steering fluid leak and the cdl was stuck. I will probably need to replace the shocks soon and to do a brake job.

So far I replaced the hood release cable, got my cdl shifter working, installed a new mirror and bought most of the stuff to carry the 60k service. I can say that my truck cost me maybe 1800$CDN up to now. I'm planning it to cost me 2500$ in the long run... I will see but even at 2500$ I still consider it a cheap Disco since they still sell for approximately 3500$ in Quebec.

Anyways, the best thing is to test drive it for a long time... at least 1/2 hour. This way, any light that has to pop in the dash will. And you will be aware of any issues with the truck.

Couple things:

1) Gas is going down so it'll be easier on your wallet.

2) You're buying a LOT of vehicle for the $4900 or so. It's a luxury SUV. I think it's a good value.

3) Chick dig Land Rovers. It's true. I posted this on another message recently on another 'should I buy' question. You're going to get girls asking you about it, I'm sure. Most don't even know what it is. They just know it looks cool. The Land Rover image seems to be 'burned' deep into people's brain. If you buy a Ford Escape, nobody's going to ask you a thing about it other than what you're going to buy next. Land Rover is a different story.

Good luck,

You know, if this deal goes through, have a beer and get over it (wait, you're only 17, I know you don't drink beer).

Get on Craigslist and you'll find Land Rovers all over in the price range you were looking at. Search some of the larger metro areas in your region and see what you find. I saw several nice ones this summer in this range. Don't wait until gas goes too low. Also, try www.oodle.com. You can search for vehicles in a wider area and put in search parameters.

Good luck
