Default So, I've got an interesting question. [Gauges]

So, I have this problem. I keep trying to give my Disco little sports car like attributes while maintaining and even increasing its off road capability. It's like a disease, I want my cake and eat it too. Anywho, here's the hair brained idea I have now. You know how the instrument cluster on really high end sports cars, when you first turn on the car, all the gauges max out and then float back to where they are supposed to be? Yea, I want to do that. However, I have no idea what it's called, I have no idea how it works, and I have no idea how to search for it. So, any ideas?

Haha, maybe if everyone in the forum pooled their money, we could all chip in on one and share.

My glow shift coolant and oil pressure do this already.

But to answer your question: there's no way to do what you want with a stock cluster unless you write custom software that energizes the potentiometers in the individual gauges.

OR

Create a custom hardware solution that goes in-line with the tach and speed signals and "plays back" a parabolic analogue signal range to sweep the gauges high to low when an ignition cycle is started.

OR

Just leave the damn cluster alone. :-p

Gauge scan system self test. Not all gauges/systems can do this by any means and it is often initiated by the engine ECU in conjunction with the general systems ECU or BCU. Most D2 systems do a self test hence the warning light/system test initially at the ignition position 2.

Alex, you obviously have too much money and time on your hands, you must be good for a loan eh

Hmm, I wonder if I could somehow wire it so that when a specific light came on that is almost certain to never come on that it also sends power to the gauges making them flip like that.

Haha, not enough of either I'm afraid. College has sucked me dry of both. Still, I can't help but conjure up some new project on the truck. It's absolutely addictive, like cocaine.
