Default Thinking of installing an oil pressure gauge

What’s the conventional wisdom - sandwich adapter or plug sensor?

Anyone have a good write up for a noob?

Sandwich adapter works fine, but there's a cheaper way. There's a blank plug right above the oil filter. I pulled that out, drilled and tapped the middle of it with the correct pipe thread, and put the oil pressure sensor into that.

I went the glowshift route using the port above the oil filter. install was really easy and straightforward. Glowshift has the adaptor that fits without any drilling. I can't remember the size but will try to look it up. All seems to work well and accurate. Goes to 50-52 psi at cold start then settles in as things warm up.

I went a little crazy…

I always liked the Smiths dual oil pressure / coolant temp mechanical gauges ever since I bought a beater MGB in the early ‘80s.

Used the same Glowshift sandwich adapter quotes above with an AN3 adapter and SS beaded line to the gauge.

I cut up an Abran aluminum “T” and welded a tapped plug on one side for the temp probe.

Not exactly inexpensive, but it was a fun project and I like it.
