Default ticking sound

I've got this ticking sound,.almost sounds like a card in the spokes of a bike, mostly hear it while slowing down, possibly because I'm not hearing it while the engines revving. Front drive shaft has just been rebuilt, as a reputable lr mechanic said that was the problem(also did the head gasket and timing cover gasket). Thinkin could it be the front diff? Or transfer case. or is it another part of the drive line? also wondering about running thicker gear oil on the diff. would that be a problem in the cold Canadian winters? -30 to -40 C

Some do run 85W140 as diff and tranfer case lube, but have you considered your swivels (front CV joints)?

Factory spec is 75W90 for the diff and transfer case oil, there is no temperature range listed, but there is for engine oil.

Find my post about the Flex Plate. You may have a cracked flex plate. The thread was a "sticky" at one point. I had a" tick" too turns out I had a cracked flex plate. The flex plate bolts between the engine and transmission. More directly, it bolts between the crankshaft and torque converter.
