Regarding the warning lights issue - I too have had that problem a couple of times. Seems to be tied to the alarm. I hit a few big bumps and it never happened again so maybe that's the fix? Give the Disco some more off road time. It always seems to help.

So, I received my new ultragauge this evening. The codes are: 1590, 0455, 0171, 0174.

A couple of other notes:

1: The cruise control does not work and has not worked for months. There are no obvious vacuum leaks.
2: There are no obvious leaks in the air filter box and all seems to hold together very tight (although some of the plastic parts are broken off where the metal bracket secure it to the MAF!)

I never really found the solution to the question about shifting hard from 3rd to 4th gear. My 2001 Disco has been shifting hard for at least a year now. The only code that I have now (other then the obligatory p1590) is a pending code for P0734.

Does anyone have a clue how to make this code go away and allow the Disco to shift properly from 3rd to 4th again?

Thanks!!!!

171 and 174 are part of a set of common codes that indicate the MAF is failing which will cause the tranny to have either 3rd. or 4th. gear shift issues.

Thanks for the reply, Mike. I did purchase a new MAF last year (one with the matching numbers) and that cleared up the other codes, but it never corrected my shifting issue. So the only codes that I have now P1590 and the pending P0734. Any idea about why the transmission is still shifting hard?

Poked around an found this for tranny code P0734

P0734 Slip detected – Fourth gear

Transmission oil level low

Output speed sensor problem (Refer to P0721
repeat several times and P0722 Possible Causes)

Engine speed signal circuit between ECM and TCM:
open circuit, short circuit, or high resistance

Transmission mechanical failure

See attached - it must be one of those... (lol)

Might be a good time for fluid change.
