transmission woes

After draining out the fluid I used a vampire pump to fill the transmission until it flowed out. Then I started the truck end went through the gears like the write up said and rechecked the level. Problem was I would turn the trick off before rechecking the fluid. When I checked out with the engine running it took almost twice as much fluid. Does that sound right?
And the question about switching out the tranny was just for curiosity. It send like wroth the proper flange it should not be an issue. Granted you would have to change the axles and almost everything else too. I've seen some mods with unimog axles.

Dang auto correct. I was trying to say that with the proper flange it should work. After all with as many vehicles used the rover v8 not all had a 4 speed
