Just reading through this
i don’t care what anyone says about troubleshooting these things yes they are old technology and all but one problem could be another problem causing the problem. This is why most shops have a hard time pinpointing the problem they leads to a ton of money and time. These things are different than say a Honda Subaru etc. Pain to pin point issues

Thanks for all the support!! If it was not for this forum, I would have given up a long time ago.

I am not out of the woods just yet, let me get a few miles to ensure this was the issue

I personally tighten the bracket first, then adjust/tighten the cables second. 1-2MM gives you a much better pedal feel, and the C/C will not surge nearly as bad once it engages. You just want to make sure however you do it that the final adjustment is 1-2MM of clearance.

I will use my gapping tools to fine tune it after I get some miles on the truck. I do not want to fiddle with anything else till I am certain that was the issue and not something else.

Which reminds me...what is the "normal" rpm at idle with truck at temp? I am not seeing that in the RAVE or I am using the wrong key words for my search

I couldn't find it in the RAVE but I've averaged about 685-700RPM but I have SAI.

Thanks, I will target that for the fine tuning

I meant to add I have SAI so that can be a factor. I've gotten as low as 666 on my UltraGauge Blue. eek!

The cables should NOT be opening the TB. With a 1-2MM gap the TB plate should be resting. You do NOT adjust that for idle speed. You are adjusting slack in the cables for Throttle/Cruise Control. 600-800RPM idle is normal.

The idle is adjusted on the fly with sensors, ECU, and the IAC. If you have vacuum leaks or something is outside of it’s spec = idle can be erratic, but if everything checks out it will be 600-800 once warmed up without the AC on & slightly higher when it’s engaged.

Great post! I'll be doing my head gaskets here soon and ya'll identifying common "gotcha's" and along with good troubleshootn' really helps. I'll have to pick up 1 or 2 special tools but I should be good to go. Now if I can just find my 10mm socket!
