Default Un-repairable rear main seal leak..

Hey all, my rear main seal has been replaced 3 maybe 4 times now, will puke oil after 60 miles or driving. Has anyone had this issue? The rest of the motor is dry, the funny thing is there seems to be oil leaking from the snout of the crankshaft. This last time the repair was done by a Land Rover specialists, not one of my techs that work mainly on MB and BMW. This truck is starting to **** the hell out of me. I have accepted the engine tick noise but this oil leak that drips..can't do it! I think I may be getting my money back if they can't figure out where it is coming from. I am considering just replacing the whole damn motor with a new one...if anyone can shed some light on this I will be very happy.

make sure they are replacing the cross seals also not just the rear main seal... check for excessive crank end play. there should be no reason to keep replacing the rear main if its installed properly and the cross seals installed correctly as well.

Yeah, someone post a photo recently of the thrust washers being busted off of the main bearings and the crankshaft had a lot of play.

Print out the pages for the RAVE covering that repair and take with you to shop.

I would say if you can't except any oil drips you probably should get ride of the truck since probably just about all Landrovers drip some quantity of oil.

Is the oil coming out the inspection port on the transmission bell housing? Are they using a borescope to determine for sure this is the source of your oil leak?

I'm assuming that the engine has been pulled or the transmission has been removed for each of your 3 seal changes or some other mysterical method must be used?

Let me correct my statement, 'I can accept seeping, but not oil puking out actually leaving a puddle' hehe. Anyways, crank end play is something I will have them check. Cross seals have been replaced each and every time, and yes the transmission is removed each time. There is also no oil noted in the bell housing this last time.

If the oil is coming from the rear main seal it almost would have to drip down the lower forward section of the bell housing and would be coming out the inspection cover on the lower end of the bell housing. I think your oil may be coming from another source. Clean up the engine oil real good and get some dye to put in your oil. Get the black light and see if you can find the source this way.

The shop has cleaned the engine, dye has been added. I am currently waiting to see what they find. I will post as soon as I hear from them.
