Default Unknown plug above oil drain

So I was under my disco this morning. I was double checking a couple things. Mainly making sure there was no leak in ATF from the recent servicing that was performed. I noticed this black rubber plug was only half way holding on. So I pull I completely off and clean it and try and get it all the way in the hole it is supposed to be in.

I don’t know how long it’s been halfway open.

My my question is. Should I be replacing any fluid that this plug protects? What is the primary function of this plug and why is it so cheaply made to where it can be pushed out by pressure?

the greenish fluid you see collecting at the bottom of the transmission pan... I recently went to a mechanic and he filled the AC system with a dye so the leak can be located. Is there any other liquid that would be leaking from that location? I’m assuming it the dye and I have a leak in the cabin possibly the heater core.

What at do you guys think?
as always thanks for the help.

It just allows the flex plate to be inspected and to keep sand and grit out of the bell housing

The rubber plug is installed in the access hole, for the removal of the flex-plate bolts, there is one on each side of engine/bell-housing, it just keeps dirt from entering the bell-housing. Usually, once they get oil soaked...they no longer fit. They are available through Atlantic British.

Edit...just saw the second part of your post...

If you are using green anti-freeze...that area on the trans pan is most likely anti-freeze, coming from either the head gaskets or valley pan gasket. Are you losing any coolant from the reservoir?

Brian.

I knew I had a leak but didn’t realize it was leaking that much. I’ll have to check the back side of the engine.
