Hi all. Over the last few months, my 02 Disco II has been losing its ability to run the heat when the car isn't moving. As time has gone on, it takes a faster and faster speed to actually make the heater blow heat. Any other times it blows cold air. Any thoughts on what it could be? It's summer so maybe not a huge priority to fix, but if it is a sign of something else wrong, then I would fix it now. Thanks!

 

My guess is you're dangerously low on coolant, driving rpm forces more of it into the heater.

Probably a good idea to see how much/what type is in there B/4 it becomes death to your motor.

Yup, OUT of coolant, keep it up and you will be buying a new engine.
Take it to any quick lube and have them check your fluids and top them off.
Then take it in to have the coolant leak found and fixed.

 

So, do you know how to refill and bleed the coolant system? You have a coolant leak which needs to be found and repaired before you do any more driving.
Need to pay more attention to your truck and it's services or you will burn up the engine

 

Is there a type of coolant that is best to use for the discos? I'm just going to have someone fill it up so I can use it this weekend. Then I will have it in the shop Monday. Any suggestions?

 

If it is dex in there top it off with dex or a universal dexclone like prestone.

 

That's true, I need to spend some more time with my truck. Unfortunately I've been so busy lately the poor thing has been left by the wayside. I got some coolant today and topped of the very very low reserve (thanks guys for saving my can!) I'll be taking it in to find the problem. Mike, I'm not sure how to bleed the system, can you explain? I also have a gurgling sound. I found on another thread that this could be a leak by the throttle body? Any input? Thanks!

 

If you don't want to burn up your engine, don't drive it till you get some Dexcool and bleed the system properly.
By your question and this reply, it sounds like you have not been maintaning your truck or know how. Might want to start by reading your owners manual.
