Just installed a new radiator and starter. Also slapped a set of used 16" wheels with 285 75 16 Kenda m/t's.....so far so good.

Flipped to 100k on the clock.....,off road, as it should be. I think I'll get her a celebratory pint of that injector cleaner additive, on the way in.

Default Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement

Replaced the crankshaft position sensor in our 2001 Discovery after several instances where it would crank but not start. Read several posts about it before tackling it which helped a lot.

Symptoms: It all started when the Disco died on a dirt road as we headed up an incline. Restarted okay after about 30 seconds. Second occurrence was about a day later (same dirt road) when we shut the engine off after pulling off to the side to get cell coverage and it wouldn't restart, but once again started up a couple minutes later. Then about a week later my daughter drove it to a friends house, shut it off and it wouldn't restart just a few minutes later. Went to tow it back to the house and it started right up (about an hour later). Drove it another week or so while I was researching until one morning it wouldn't start cold. Was DOA in the driveway for another week while trying to start it once or twice a day with no joy. The day I was going to push it into the garage to work on it it decided to start up (good thing, bad thing). Replaced the crank position sensor which took about 2 1/2 hours and my daughter's small hands to get the connector apart and then back together. Could probably cut the time in half if I ever have to do it again, as long as she helps. It's been almost 2 weeks now and no issues so hopefully we fixed the problem. Time will tell.

When it was dead (crank but no start) I had no spark at the plugs and no related stored codes.

Crank sensor was $60 at Autozone and was a Bosch part.

Default Wiper Motor (Won't Park) Replacement

Finally got around to replacing the front wiper motor on our '01 Disco. The wiper arms would not return to their park position and from my forum research found that the park function is built into the motor.

Bought a used motor off eBay and luckily it worked since I've had it for several months. Based on a tip from a glass guy that replaced a broken side window for me, I didn't remove the A pillar trim covers and instead was able to flex the plenum to get it out from under the pillar covers. However it was still in the way so I removed the hood making it much simpler to remove the plenum and to get the motor out easily.

One more project off the list. Three amigos coming up next.

Finally replaced the driver's side window regulator after months. You know, just in time to leave it up all winter

Default visited Monument Valley Arizona

My wife and I drove to Monument Valley in our Disco II - had a great adventure exploring the area. There was fresh snow and rain, so a lot of the dirt roads were a slimy clay mess, but the truck pulled us thru without missing a beat!
