No. I'm referring to the sealing surfaces on the upper side of the valve base, and the undersides of the valve seats. They need to be polished as a pair so that they seal, and you generally don't do them mechanically but by hand. Any Google search will give you plenty of information on this.
Started in the front bumper today. Good enough to rock for a while. I'll still be adding a hitch receiver to the front and filling in under the middle a little more, but not a whole lot.
Begun tearing into the top end of the engine. Now that I have time on my hands due to layoff, I can take care of some of the more involved maintenance. Chief among which are the valley pan and valve cover gaskets. Taking this time to also switch to Extinct's inline thermostat (currently running the genuine TD5 180°), and refresh all of the coolant hoses. Rear cargo door is stuck shut, so that's on the docket, too. If I'm unlucky enough to remain unemployed, I'll see about addressing the sagging headliner afterwards.
