The PO of my truck gave me a decent factory bumper when I bought it it. Apparently the owner he bought it from used the Nudge bar more than once and shattered the plastic bumper cover.
I pulled off the factory nudge guard to repair the rust and paint it, and installed the bumper he gave me that’s in better shape.
Did all that yesterday, today I did Option B after reading my abs codes and having the shuttle valve fault.
Anyone have a spare Land Rover hood emblem? Just the need the letter “L”!! Haha
Picked this RTE bumper today. Overall not bad condition. I’ll probably strip it in the spring and re-spray it with some rattle can paint. The powder coat is a little chipped in places. I could sandblast and powder coat it again but at that point it would’ve made more sense to buy new.
My front bush bumper is a bit rough, with pealing plastic and rust here and there. I think its a stock item at the time.
Since I do go in the bush, brushing on some Tremclad is my friend.
The kids and I took the truck for a scenic spin last night, and once we got to Narrowsburg, BANG! The air spring failed catastrophic like, and we had a trip home 30 miles at about 25-30 mph. Smooth road, no sticks or gravel. Initial inspection seems to indicate the bladder detached from the top plastic mount.
flogged the truck to and from Crested Butte over the weekend. Truck did awesome aside from a gnarly headwind coming home that gave us fits for 20 miles or so.. Got a little exploring in but was mainly a relaxing weekend and the rover was on pavement duty most of the time. While out a snow storm did come barreling down the valley which was pretty wild.
The title of this thread is “What did you do WITH your DII today?” (emphasis added). Unfortunately, perhaps, it has become largely “What did you do TO your DII today?”
Well, what I did with my DII today should be routine, but it’s been quite a while since the truck has ventured more than a few miles from home. Today, Redrover and I took a 320+ mile round trip to Durham to help my younger son move out of his apartment. He’s taking his “gap year” a couple of years after being graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill since his intended career path hasn’t worked out due to COVID.
Anyway, the truck ran flawlessly and recorded 16 mpg roundtrip, about half of which was at ~75 mph on I-85. (I took a more scenic route on the way home.) The UltraGauge showed a steady 188.6°F, dipping occasionally to 186.8.
I don’t drive Redrover much these days (~1,900 miles the last two years, including today's 320), so it was nice to enjoy a few hours with it today. Hangin’ out with an old friend. When I pulled up to a stop sign or stop light I was impressed about how the engine just purred. And, I checked the coolant level when I got home and it was right at the seam, just the same as when I left. Yay! All went well.
New pads and rotors installed. Front locator screws were missing (less headache), but rear ones had been reused (more headache). Nonetheless all bolts and screws came out the normal way without damage, but requiring breaker bar and impact screwdriver. Got some nice stainless steel M8x20 flat top with Allen key for the locator screws (ebay 10-pack for under$6). 19mm and 13mm 12-point short sockets worked well, long sockets or extension were not needed. Disassembly and assembly went fast, cleaning took most time.
