What to do on an engine swap?
I ended up finding a 26k engine (with carfax) to replace my 96k mile engine with dropped sleeve on my Disco II. If anyone wants to know engine options out there for the Disco II your welcome to private message me as I considered probably about 15 different engines including refurbished. I am trying to figure out exactly what to have the mechanic do as part of the engine swap.
The engine warranty language is as follows:
***Must retain all service records and legitimate receipts to provide proof that conditions were met.
HAND WRITTEN RECEIPTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED***
1.A new thermostat must be installed
2.Heat tab must not be melted or missing
3.Replace oil, filter, timing belt, water pump, and all oil seals
4.Do not alter or dissemble
5.Damage by customer/technician due to improper installation
6.Intake manifold must be cleaned prior to engine installation to avoid contamination of old engine.
Based on this, I have the following list:
1) 2 down pipe gaskets
2) valve cover gasket and new bolts
3) oil & filter
4) coolant
5) Rear main seal
6) Front crankshaft seal
7) Thermostat
4) Inspect the front gasket on Tranny and replace if neccesary
Questions:
1) Is my list above complete? What else would you do on this low mileage engine when swapping out.
2) The mechanic wants to replace the lower intake manifold gasket. Something about its a problem area for these engines and plus its easier to replace engine in parts separating it. Does this make sense? I am afraid this might void warranty so I will check with salvage yard selling me the engine.
